Be Prepared for Your Home Remodel

5 Ways to Be Prepared for a Home Remodel Project

It’s an exciting time to start a remodel on your home, but it can also be a very overwhelming process. We want you to have the best experience from beginning to end. And the good news is you don’t have to agonize over finding the right contractor for the job. We’ve got you covered there (wink, wink)!

01. Clean and Declutter

Demo day is coming! Get those cabinets, drawers, and closets emptied. And while you’re at it, ask yourself, “Do I need all this?” Sometimes these projects give us the chance to find what is hidden in the back of the drawer or the closet and assess if it is still needed or useful. It is also helpful to make note of what type of cabinet/drawer space is needed in the new space for what you plan to keep. This will be helpful to go over with the designer as you lay out your new space.

  • Kitchens: We will typically try to keep the refrigerator plugged in and accessible, but all the other appliances, cabinets, and sinks will be unusable until we are finished. Plan to set up a small “dorm kitchen” in a back bathroom. Small microwaves are very helpful!

  • Bathrooms: Clean out everything!  Let us know if there are any items such as lights, towel bars, etc., that you want to keep. Otherwise, we will throw everything away.

  • Backyards: Move everything as far away from the work area as possible. We will discuss with you access points and possible impacts on existing structures and plants, but please let us know your concerns.

  • Furniture: We don’t move furniture or pianos. It never works out, sorry.  Make a plan before we start for a smooth and efficient project!

02. It’s Going to Be Messy

We’ve been complimented over and over about the organization and cleanliness of our work areas, but not every day is a clean day. Renovation projects will create dust., but we will clean up each day from the work. Be mindful that it is a work zone and will not be conducive for hosting parties during the project (yes, we’ve been asked this question multiple times!). Our best encouragement is to clean out as much as you can, and recognize that demo days are the messiest, with texturing/sanding drywall being a close second. But don’t worry, we will have a professional cleaning crew come in at the end of the project to clean our work area so you’re ready to go.

03. Prepare for the Noise

We love babies and dogs, but they do not love our work areas. Roofing is loud, taking up flooring is loud, hammering during framing is loud and sometimes the music is loud. Construction is not a quiet endeavor. We work during normal work hours and ask that each of our customers understand that we will be in and out in a timely fashion with as much consideration as possible.

04. Get Ready to Make Decisions

You would not believe how many shades of white there are, and we are here to help aid you in the decision-making process. We’ll provide samples of colors, flooring, tile, counters, etc. But when the job starts, the decision train has left the building and it keeps running on the tracks until we are done. We are committed to working with customers on each aspect of the project, but ultimately make a decision so we can execute the plan for you. Just remember, making changes during the job can be costly for both your time and budget.

05. Always Communicate

It is never a bother to receive emails, phone calls or texts. We are here to partner with our customers to achieve the vision and home of their dreams. We want to beat expectations, so let us know your concerns, questions, and ideas. We will start a text thread the week leading up to demo day that includes our customer, designer and General Contractor, so that throughout the project when questions arise or we need to communicate the next day’s schedule, we already have an established line of communication in place. Our goal is to stay connected during the project, so we are all on the same page.

“Our projects turned out so beautifully! Chad and his construction crew are phenomenal. Christy is so good at guiding and recommending selections and keeping me informed of schedules for each step of the way. I could go on and on - they are great!”
